All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.

Outcasts seemed to be something of an anomaly, coming at a time where sci fi wasn't particularly in Vogue, so a full series, particularly an eight parter was a welcome surprise.I've just re watched all eight episodes and enjoyed it more then it's original run. The problem I found with it is that the early episodes are very raw, almost full, and in this day and age viewers would have just switched off, and they did. Half way through the series changes, it becomes gripping, more entertaining, the characters are more likeable, episodes seven and eight are excellent.I understand why it was axed, but I'm sad it was, it had heaps of potential, Liam Cunningham in particular was excellent. Good special effects, stories which felt as though they could have been from Blake's Seven.Watchable, but wasted potential. 7/10

Looking for a good sci-fi show I randomly found this one and was disappointing. The first mistake was killing off a main character that was going to make things interesting. Then turns into a very low tech drama fest that falls short of expectations. overall unless you have nothing else to dive into it's not worth the watch.

Outcasts is quite a refreshing take on human nature and society building. Good cinematography, stunning backdrops and a whole cast of interesting characters I'd actually want to have conversations with (not something common on television these days) saved an otherwise completely bleak first episode of betrayal, suspicion, obfuscation, lies, egotism and murder for me. As the characters and relationships continue to develop over the episodes, some more positive elements of human nature began to emerge, making this series more bearable. Intrigue and plots, big and small made for a really enjoyable series on the whole. It stands out amidst the staid brain-eroding elements and fluff repeating themselves on my television these days.

I had high hopes that 'Outcasts' would follow the lead set by the Dr Who revival and show that British scriptwriters and producers had learnt that science-fiction a la Blakes Seven is not good enough for the twenty first century. Alas my hopes have been dashed. The special effects and sets are passable, and worthy of some credit, but the scriptwriting is puerile, the characters one-dimensional stereotypes and the plot-lines are worthy of a budget soap-opera such as Holby City. The acting (if that is the word) reflects the inadequacies of the script and gives meaning to the word wooden. The music deserves better and at times, thankfully, is loud enough to drown out the dialogues.
