This is It Trailers

James Broughton's creation myth, THIS IS IT, places a 2-year-old Adam and a bright apple-red balloon in a backyard garden of Eden, and works a small miracle of the ordinary. And since that miracle is what his film is about, he achieves a kind of casual perfection in matching means and ends.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

"This Is It" is a 9-minute live action short film from 1970, so this one is already over 45 years old. The director is James Broughton and he was in his 50s already when he shot this little film. I see that the kid we see from start to finish is Orion Broughton, so it's probably his grandson (maybe even his son still). The film takes us on a journey with the little boy and we see the world through his eyes while we hear very basic comments on the particular situation. I think it was okay for an experimental film and I have seen many worse from the genre, but I still believe that the film is really too personal to be interesting to general audiences. It is a solid addition to a family history collection, but as a film I cannot really see the appeal. That's why I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
