Best movie of this year hands down!
... View MoreIt isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
... View MoreYour blood may run cold, but you now find yourself pinioned to the story.
... View MoreThis is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
... View MoreI really loved the show. When TV shows are Sci Fi you either love them or you leave them. I could not wait from the minute the episode ended until the next one aired the following week. I would watch the short previews for next weeks show about a half a dozen times, then read everything written on the internet about the next show. I guess I was hooked. I am trying to explain on paper why I liked the show so much, without writing about a spoiler and getting my review canned. All I can come up with is, I liked everything the plot, the characters, the cars they drove, San Francisco, Alcatraz prison the old and the new one. I liked it all, so if any of the writers from the show or any of the Fox Executives are reading this review please bring it back for a second season. You won't regret it!
... View MoreTypical JJ Abrahams, the concept is good but the execution and delivery is just bad.First 4 episodes were enjoyable, then it went downhill and I started to lose interest. The background music was the same as LOST and Hurley played Hurley. I just didn't understand what the series was trying to achieve, if it was gripping TV then their objective was not achieved!Sam Neill who plays Emerson had one facial expression and his acting range was questionable?I have read that the series has not been renewed which I think is the completely the right decision...if there is another season I certainly wont be tuning in!
... View MoreAlcatraz prison was allegedly shut down in 1963 due to unsafe conditions, it prisoners and staff transferred. However, both the prisoners and guards really disappeared and begin to reappear in present-day San Francisco with a new dangerous agenda and only a government agency can track them down. The escaped prisoner is always far more developed than its leading players each episode and this the shows biggest failing. Sarah Jones while a good actress is sadly miscast as Detective Rebecca Madsen and the show never focused on her assists. The opposite can be said for Sam Neill as Emerson Hauser who aside from the weekly villain cemented the goings on and keeps the show watchable. Robert Forester is sorely underused and the rest of the supporting regulars while good character actors are not expanded swiftly enough and get lost within the notions and premise which buckles under its own weight. As a show it's well directed and produced. Violent and graphic at times - Alcatraz isn't scared not to pull any punches. The sets and locations felt real enough giving it a brooding atmosphere. However, for such a high concept Alcatraz spends too much time on is weekly bad guy.Alcatraz never delivers due to a mystery that is dragged along by a weekly escapee. In turn, it doesn't balance the overall arch with the weekly storyline and great concept.Leaving the first season on two or more cliff-hangers dejectedly doesn't entice you continue watching Alcatraz. If anything it's a negative, some kind of closure on some of the threads possibly would have allowed a certain freshness for you to want return to a second series.
... View MoreYes, i give it one star. A broken car with a really expensive paint job is still just a broken car.I don't think i have ever been as disappointed by a show before. Its been widely marketed as "the new lost", however this show doesn't even come close to the atmosphere and gripping mystery of the first couple of Lost seasons before it, IMO, spun out of control. As a sci-fi nerd, one of the coolest things about "people from he past wake up in the future" themes is how they react to and interact with the new and undoubtedly strange world they find themselves in. We see nothing of this in here. One of the criminals, having spent roughly 2 hours in the present time, told some guy to "put his phone away" referring to his cell phone. I think that says it all. Whats next, they go on twitter in an internet café and brag about their crimes? The female cop lead looks like shes 18 years old and is completely un-likable. The fat guy from lost adds some comic relief, however although he is supposed to be some genius doctor of criminology, in the show he just scripted as the fat guy from lost.I think my major gripe with the show is the lack of present-meets-past. The criminals act like they have been traveling 5 years in time, not 45.I stopped caring after 5 episodes.
